The Borgue area has two bathing beaches at the Dhoon and Brighouse Bay that are in danger of losing their bathing water designation. This is a result of a combination of agricultural and domestic run-off into local water courses that drain into these areas. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has been working with land owners and some local communities to identify and control the levels of pollution getting into the sea around our coastline. Most properties in the Borgue area have septic tanks and these need to be properly maintained in order to control their discharge to water courses.
