The Scottish Government have published an update on the rollout of fibre broadband throughout the country. You can read it at: http://borguecommunity.org.uk/index.php/our-work/broadband-campaign/fibre-broadband-r100-update. Kirkandrews village is exploring the option of using the UK Government Rural Gigabit Voucher scheme to pay for extending the fibre network to the Kirkandrews area. Under the scheme, properties can claim vouchers of up to £1,500 each to cover the cost of installing the fibre cabling.

Every year the average household in Dumfries and Galloway produces over a tonne of waste. All of this is collected and processed through the council’s waste service. Scotland as a whole produced over 3.3 million tonnes of household waste in 2017. This is not sustainable and as a society, we need to do more to reduce, reuse and recycle waste. To help tackle this, the Council will be introducing a new kerbside recycling service across the whole region and improving the way we run our Household Waste Recycling Centres.

D&G Council are running a series of Waste and Recycling Community Conversation events, visiting every ward during October and November 2019. We will have displays and information on the new kerbside recycling collections and the events will also be a chance to discuss all aspects of our waste service or wider recycling issues; for example:

  • ·“Where does my waste go to?”
  • ·“What does the Ecodeco plant actually do?”or
  • ·“What is the Scottish Government’s ‘Deposit Return Scheme’ all about?”

We will also be asking for feedback on proposed changes to opening hours for the Household Waste Recycling Centres. Everyone is welcome to drop in to these sessions.

The event runs from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, 29th October in the main chamber at the Daar Road Council offices in Kirkcudbright.

It will be repeated in Castle Douglas Town Hall on Tuesday 12th November at the same times.

The Borgue bus timetable will be changing (slightly) from the start of December with the aim of improving links to onward connections.

There is currently a temporary arrangement whereby the 0810 and 1540 service are being done by the big school bus (driven by Colin).

The Galloway Community Transport (GCT) bus is now doing a to and from school, schools-only service round by Girthon, Rainton, Borgue etc. This service isn't licensed to carry the public.

GCT is still operating the 1210 and 1710 Kirkcudbright-Brighouse-Borgue-Kirkcudbright services as usual until the new timetable starts on 2 December.

The best person to contact with any questions about the service is Lindsay Heron at Swestrans: 01387 260383.
