Re-opening the Kirkcudbright cottage hospital is a topical and passionate subject in our  area.

You may have seen it reported in the Galloway News that a public meeting regarding the future of the Newton Stewart hospital saw more then 200 people turn out to support their community asset.  Likewise in our area, support is strong - since the start of the year more than 700 signatures have been collected on a petition prepared by Finlay Carson MSP requesting that our Cottage Hospitals are re-opened as a matter of urgency to ensure a range of services are available locally such as Palliative Care, Step-down Care, and treatment for minor injuries, to ease the bed blocking in DGRI, and to provide fit for purpose care facilities in our local communities.  The majority of  local Councillors are also behind our campaign.

With D&G Health & Social Care providing Community Consultation drop-in meetings (Right Care Right Place) during February it is a matter of urgency that we as a community have our voices heard, and have our wishes conveyed to the NHS through the power of community groups, especially official bodies like the Community Council.

There will be a drop-in event at Daar Road Council Offices on Monday 13th February between 1.00 and 6.00 p.m.

Please attend this meeting if you can as your views on the future of intermediate care in Dumfries and Galloway matter. You can drop into the event at any time during the day from 1pm to 6pm to share your views, or participate in more structured discussion about intermediate care by joining a focus group running at the event.
