The Borgue area has a long history and has many interesting artefacts from various periods. There are neolithic "cup & ring" rock carvings, iron age/medieval mottes and forts and many listed historic buildings including the quirky Edwardian creations of James Brown of Knockbrex. The Spring Fling event in late May features artists from Dumfries & Galloway who open their galleries to visitors over the bank holiday weekend.
Kirkcudbright holds an Art & Craft Trail annually over a long weekend in late July or early August. It showcases the work of around 150 artists in 100 locations around the town of Kirkcudbright.
